HOW TO SELL YOUR ITEM

One of the best steps you can take in getting your item sold is to create an attractive, compelling listing.

The listing is often the first impression your product will make on a potential bidder, so it's crucial that you take the time to do it right.

Since many potential buyers will be placing their bids based on the product visuals and description, this is a vital step in the selling process.

Creating an attractive ad is critical to the success of getting your item sold. Of course, the item and its price have to be in line with what potential bidders are looking for, but more often, an attractive ad can make the difference between getting a high price for your item or not selling it at all.

Below is How to Attract More Buyers by knowing what to ask:
What are potential bidders (buyers) looking for?

* A bargain with some extras
*Something they can't get anywhere else for a good price
*An unusual item they can't find anywhere

Why will they buy from you?

* You are offering a bargain at a fair price.
* Your item looks/seems/is better than the competition
* You are providing a unique item
* They are more comfortable (trusting) of your ad, therefore, of you.

Why won't they buy from you?

* You photo is so big that they have to use the horizontal and verticle sliders just to get around your photo to see the item. Do one photo that is just 7 inch wide by 5 inch tall that shows the item. This will leave room to display your 3 other photos as thumbnails so if they want more details, then they can lick on them.

* Your price is too high, Ask yourself "What would I buy this item at?", If your item is cheeper somewhere else, then they will not buy from you. Start the bidding at a small price.

They don't believe/trust in your ad, therefore, you need to make the following considerations when creating a listing:

* The title in the ad listings. This is where Google search is looking to find your item so a good title line is important but keep it to a reasonalbe length.

Example: you could say "coin for sale"
or you could say "1990 Circulated 20 cent coin - Fine Condition"

*The title in the item's description should be the same as the above title.

* The description of your item, be truthful, describe any defects if any, a folded corner, a perforation missing, surface nicks or scratches, or rim nicks on the edges.
If you have a bulk listing (many items in one photo), take the time to describe them, like:
10 stamps from Narnia.
All are from good to fine condition.
None have defects.
All have been cancelled.
At this low price, these are nice stamps for the 1st time collector and good filler stamps for your album.

The item's features

* The price (of course), be fair and reasonable.

* Postage (shipping) costs, keep it to just what the buyer should pay. Don't tack on a profit in the postage.

* Handling charges. Personnaly, I would rather buy from someone who does not charge me a "handling charge" than from someone who does charge me.
I feel that if they were lucky enough to have me as a buyer then they should not charge me a "handling charge".

The impression/attractiveness of your ad (important)

Your listing's title and imagery are the first impression buyers will get when they read your ad.

It's important, not only to have a desirable item and low price, but an ad that will grab their attention and convince them to read it.

Therefore, it's critical that you take the time to properly design and create your ad to obtain its maximum performance potential.

An ad with a boring, non-descriptive title and simple, non-exciting description will gain about as much attention as a pebble in a rocky stream.

The key is to make your ad stand out amongst all the others and make the buyer want to read it.

I've heard that you should describe your item as if you had no pictures, and take pictures as if you had no description. Make it perfectly clear to the buyer what you're sellling. Always describe any imperfections, no matter how insignificant they seem to you. Folks will buy things in less than perfect condition if you're honest with them about it.

Here are a few more pieces of advice from what I've learned over the years:

It helps to list more than one item at a time; one listing may lead buyers to another item you're offering.

Make your listing as professional looking as possible--avoid bad grammar, poor spelling, etc., so you appear to be reputable. Look at similar listings and compare, is my listing nicer than that listing?

State your policies in clear terms, and be fair. Many sellers will state "no refunds" which is certain to discourage buyers. I mean, Walmart accepts returns, so why shouldn't I? If you put in something like "Buyer Satisfaction Guarrantee - If you receive the item and it was not as I described in my listing, you may return the item and get a full refund." People are more happy to buy from you if offer a return policy rather than state "No refunds, not returns". I would just ignore a listing that had a no refund no return policy.

Be friendly and helpful to your prospective buyers. Provide good customer service, and you'll get raves in your feedback and return customers. I've noticed that some sellers will threaten the buyers with an unpaid item dispute for not paying up on time--right in the listing! I'd never buy from anyone with such poor customer relations; the seller has a right to expect their customers to pay up, but Heck, I haven't even decided to buy the thing yet! I'll pass it up because I don't want to deal with sellers like that.
